DANIEL L. HOOPER
Music Director

Daniel Lee Hooper comes from Arizona, where he served All Saints Episcopal Church as Organist/Choir Director for 14 years, then taught at Phoenix College for 18 years. He holds a Sacred Music Master degree (composition) from union Theological Seminary in New York as well as a Bachelor of Music degree (piano) from The Juilliard School. While living in New York City, Mr. Hooper was elected to the session of the Broadway Presbyterian Church at theage of 21. He served two years of his term, yielding to the master’s program requirement of maintaining a field work position at the Chambers Memorial Baptist Church in Harlem for the two years of his graduate studies.

His musical studies began at age three, performances beginning soon after. At four years of age, he was officially enrolled as a student of the San Antonio Community College where his teacher, Bess Hieronymus, was on staff. He won the first Joske Scholarship competition at the age of eleven, winning two performances with the San Antonio Symphony as part of the prize. His masters project, a chancel opera Abraham & Isaac, received the Seth Bingham Award for composition. Mr. Hooper was founding director for the Phoenix Girls Chorus and has assisted several community choir programs in both Arizona and California. He currently sings alto with The Choral Project under Daniel Hughes. He has compositions in the catalogues of NALR and Santa Barbara Music Publishers, and he is a member of ASCAP.
