The Junior Chancel Choir is part of the vibrant music program at PCLG. It provides music and inspiration for Sunday worship during "Time for Young Disciples" about once every month from September through mid-June. Daniel Hooper, Music Director at PCLG, conducts the choir. We are always looking for new members.

Rehearsals: Sunday morning after worship, in the Choir Room from 11:30 AM - 12:00 Noon
This choir is open to all youth in 3rd through 8th grades. Parents participate in all rehearsals. This group prepares songs to sing occasionally for Sunday worship, and works on musical skills with theory lessons and music reading training. Members of this choir have presented the Christmas Pageant in the past. |
What is the overall purpose of the Junior Chancel Choir?
The purpose of the Junior Chancel Choir is for youth from grades 3rd-8th grades to learn how to sing and share the joy of music with each other. The Junior Chancel Choir presents music for the worship occasionally during "Time for Young Disciples." Working together through music preparation and presentation, choir members experience musical growth, development of self-esteem, and a closer communion with God and one another.
In what activities is the Junior Chancel Choir involved?
The Junior Chancel Choir rehearses on most Sunday mornings after worship from 11:30 am to 12:00 Noon. Rehearsals may consist of prayer, vocal warm-up, singing and music preparation, and music learning. The Junior Chancel Choir presents music for the worship service occasionally, as well as other special events (i.e., Christmas Eve, Thanksgiving, Easter, etc), and has presented the Christmas Pageant for 3 years in the past. The group may also participate other special events such as concerts and fundraisers.
How can I get involved, and how much time can I expect to spend?
All youth ages 3rd-8th grade are welcome to be a part of this rewarding musical experience. Parents attend
and may participate in rehearsals. The general time commitment is a half-hour on Sunday mornings and another short warm up before participating by singing in services. Extra time is requested for special events (as listed above). The ability to match pitch is essential.
