What is the overall purpose of the Junior Chancel Choir
The purpose of the Junior Chancel Choir is for children from grades K-8th to learn how to sing and share the joy of music with each other. The Junior Chancel Choir presents music for the worship occasionally during "Time for Young Disciples." Working together through music preparation and presentation, choir members experience musical growth, development of self-esteem, and a closer communion with God and one another.
In what activities is the Junior Chancel Choir involved?
The Junior Chancel Choir rehearses on most Sunday mornings after worship from 11:15 am to 12:15 pm. Each rehearsal consists of a prayer, vocal warm-up, singing and music preparation, and music learning. The Junior Chancel Choir presents music for the worship service occassionally, has provided the Christmas Pageant for the past 3 years, and special events, i.e., Christmas Eve, Thanksgiving, Easter, and others. The group may also present other special events such as concerts and fund raisers.
How can I get involved, and how much time can I expect to spend?
All children ages K-8th can be a part of this rewarding
musical experience. Parents are encouraged to attend and
participate in rehearsals. Parents are invited to rehearsals
and can participate in the singing if they wish. The general
time commitment is one hour on Sunday mornings and another
hour when participating during services. Extra time is
requested for special events (as listed above). The ability
to match pitch is essential.
