• CLAN TARTAN:
  • There are over 18,000 family names (including spelling variations) that are associated with highland clans. Is yours one of them?
  • Many family names are associated with established clans but are not clans themselves. These are called "septs". For example, Fisher is a sept of Clan Campbell. Find out if your family name is a sept of a clan.
    
    
• DISTRICT TARTAN: There are even more Scottish families that were never associated with highland clans but they still can claim a tartan that's related to their home/originating district. And then, of course, there are the Irish Family & County tartans and Canadian tartans.

Participate in the Kirkin' o' the Tartans

Participating in the Kirkin' is asking heaven's blessing on all who are entitled to wear the same tartan that you wear--clan, regimental, or district. It's a way of connecting with your roots. And it's another way of celebrating Scottish heritage--a way that's quite a bit calmer than your standard highland festival.
