Our Vision as the Presbytery of San José
Called by God as a governing body of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.),
the Presbytery of San José exists to serve and be a resource for the ongoing health and growth of the Presbyterian congregations within
our four counties.
Our vision is:
- to support our congregations in reaching out to all people in the name of Jesus Christ;
- to challenge our churches to hold fast to the foundations of our faith;
- to build a diverse community unified by the unique gifts of the Holy Spirit for the great work of the church.
We call upon God's grace and help for the fulfillment of this vision.
We join other congregations to support the work of our Presbytery, which spans four counties. We are particularly proud of our Presbytery’s active Mission Advocates and strive to support them in their work, both monetarily and through service. Pat Plant, our Hunger Action Advocate, is well-known for her colourful vegetable-print dress and her tireless work on behalf of hungry and homeless people in the Presbytery area. Through this ministry we have hosted two Poverty Simulations at PCLG so that our members and the community can learn more about their problems from low income people themselves who plan and staff the Simulations. Elsa Amboy and Melissa Kreisa are our Refugee Ministry Advocates, tirelessly working on behalf of refugees from countries around the world who have settled here. They are the ones who made us aware of our three young men from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, two of whom still have an apartment here in Los Gatos. The other Advocates are Geoff Browning, Peacemaking Advocate, and Judy Pogue, Mission Advocate. We have been less active with these two missions in recent years.
