What is the overall purpose of this Group? The purpose of the Chancel Choir is to enhance the worship service and experience so that the message for the day is reinforced and made more powerful through music. Working together through music preparation and presentation, choir members experience a deeper, more meaningful communion with God and one another. In what activities is the Chancel Choir involved? Chancel Choir rehearses on Thursday evenings from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. The Chancel Choir sings for Sunday services at 10:00 a.m. from September to mid-June. The Chancel Choir provides music for other special services throughout the year, i.e., Christmas Eve, Thanksgiving, Easter, and others. The group may also present other special events such as concerts and the Maundy Thursday Cantata. How can I get involved, and how much time can I expect to spend? Come to a rehearsal and sing along with the choir. If you don’t know what part you sing (soprano, alto, tenor, bass), we’ll help you figure it out. Prospective members should be able to match pitch and rhythm. Experience singing in school choir(s) and/or other church choir(s) and the ability to read music is a plus, but not required. Extra help is available by request. The general time commitment is 90 minutes on Thursday evening and about two hours on Sunday morning. Extra time is requested for special events (as listed above). Whom do I contact to join or get more information? Contact our Director of Music Michael Taylor.
