POSITION: Church Accountant

 

HOURS: 20/week in office Monday-Thursday (exact schedule to be determined)

 

PURPOSE: This position will provide accurate and excellent financial services for church operations and serve as a key member of the church administrative team.

 

ACCOUNTABILITY: Associate Pastor and Treasurer (Finance Elder).

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Provide full charge accounting services for church finances, including fund accounting.

 

Generate financial reports: including monthly, annual, cashflow, balance sheet, variance report, and others as requested.

 

 Coordinate Annual financial reviews and periodic audits.

 

Generate monthly budget vs. actuals reporting for those responsible for expenditures.

 

Coordinate with administrative team to ensure good processes and controls are developed, documented and communicated for all transactions.

 

 Manage cash balances, deposits and reconcile monthly bank statements.

 

 Manage Accounts Payable, verifying expenditure authorities and available budget.

 

 Maintain records of investments as directed by the Treasurer.

 

 Oversee volunteers and staff who tally weekly offering and other payments or donations.

 

Oversee all employee payroll functions ensuring timely and accurate payments.

 

 Provide support to the annual stewardship campaign.

 

 Maintain confidential giving (stewardship) records; issue giving reports to the congregation and send receipts for memorial and other donations.

 

Other duties as required to support the administrative team.

RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to the Associate Pastor. Will maintain a cooperative, constructive and positive relationship with the staff and leadership of the church. Provides efficient, empathetic presence for members and non-members who come to or call the church.

 

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

 

Necessary: Experience with full charge accounting, excellent computer skills and experience with financial software and aptitude to learn new financial systems.

 

Desirable: Non- profit fund accounting experience, previous church work experience.

 

EVALUATION: A performance review will be conducted annually. The review will include an assessment of competence, effectiveness of relationships with other staff and members, accomplishments and a discussion of goals. A salary review will be conducted annually.
