CAMINO SANTIAGO

Camino Talk (860 x 380 px)-4.png

Pastor Erica Rader and Christina Hingle are leading a Women’s Camino pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela starting May 16 returning home June 1. The path is roughly the path taken by our young adult pilgrimage last May, with some modifications for our needs. We anticipate walking 10-15 miles/ day and we’ve developed a tentative itinerary.

A pilgrimage where one walks on the paths walked by other pilgrims in the past is a formative experience for God’s people. It is both a personal experience and a community experience.   Formation is found in the literal and spiritual process of walking with God and each other. For over 1000 years, pilgrims from all over the world have walked this pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, traditionally believed to be the burial site of the apostle James. This pilgrimage continues today with El Camino de Santiago being the most well known and well-loved pilgrimage walk in the world.

Some key expectations that we will share:

  • This is a spiritual pilgrimage. We will have made plans, prepared ourselves and packed well but we’ll go with the flow of the Camino, expecting that the Holy Spirit will guide us. We’re walking this Camino together, but everyone’s going to have their “own Camino.”

  • We will receive and give grace to ourselves and one another, seeking to have openness for the experience.

  • We will take responsibility for our own needs and self care, and we won’t feel ashamed if we need to take a break, seek assistance, or take transportation to the next town.

  • We will encourage each other and take responsibility for preparing physically for the pilgrimage, starting in January.

  • We will be staying in hostels! Sharing space with other pilgrims in dorm room setup along the paths. It may feel similar to staying in campground facilities, waking up early/ going to bed early, washing your clothes by hand.

  • We’re backpacking! Everything is organized and condensed in your backpack, feet will hurt a bit, we’ll be wearing practical hiking clothes. Just like if you’ve been on the Mexico mission trip, the focus is on being healthy rather than on the aesthetics of what you are wearing (or how clean it is)!

  • We’re individually paying for flights, hostels, meals- it will not be a packaged tour. We’ll use reservation apps to reserve nightly accommodations. In January, we will share flight ideas if women want to book their travel together. Contact Brenda Constanzo clerk@pclg.org to get a link to see the flights chosen by other pilgrims and to confirm that you are part of our camino.

  • Costs:

  • $50 fee to PCLG (for program coordination cost)

  • Flights: approx $1300

  • Per day: $30-$60/ day

  • Total:  approximately $2500
